The ‘Scary Movie’ Team Is Working on a ‘Star Wars’ Parody
Well I suppose it’s about time. Movie parodies are the kind of industry that’s always there, creeping under the surface of the Hollywood franchise machine, waiting to snap up a property ripe for lampooning. The duo behind all of the Scary Movies and Twilight parody Vampires Suck are launching themselves to a galaxy far, far away for Star Wars sendup Star Worlds Episode XXXIVE=MC2: The Force Awakens the Last Jedi Who Went Rogue.
‘Fast and Furious’ Is Crashing a Live Arena Near You in 2018… No, Seriously
Much like Disney has Disney on Ice and James Cameron has all the souls of the acrobats in Cirque du Soleil trapped in a glass jar so they’ll pretend to be blue aliens forever, Fast & Furious is bringing its mindblowing automotive stunts to the stage. Unfortunately, it’s not a musical (fingers still crossed), but a live arena show that’ll tour the world starting January of next year.
’Sup Bat-fans, Watch LEGO Batman Give a Tour of Wayne Manor for ‘Gotham Cribs’
The self-aware superhero thing seems to be becoming a trend. Last year, Deadpool charmed audiences with his irreverent, R-rated take on the origin story, cursing up a storm and breaking the fourth wall every five minutes. LEGO Batman, possibly the best part of The LEGO Movie, was similar, throwing in jabs now and again to his dark, broody characterization in The Dark Knight Trilogy. The LEGO Batman Movie promises more of the same in this new “Gotham Cribs” clip, which shows LEGO Batman trying really hard not to let everyone know he and LEGO Bruce Wayne are the same person. If he were any more aware of himself, he’d ascend to nirvana.
Josh Gad Won’t Stop Asking Daisy Ridley About ‘The Last Jedi’
After the title of the next Star Wars movie was revealed a couple weeks ago, a veritable mountain of blog posts and articles piled up debating who “The Last Jedi” could be. Even celebrities weren’t safe from speculation fever, with Josh Gad taking the opportunity to try to ask Daisy Ridley herself what the title means. That attempt went less than smoothly, but far from being discouraged, Gad is back for another go at it.
New ‘Baywatch’ Posters Take a Cue from ‘Game of Thrones,’ Assure Us ‘Summer Is Coming’
Much like the warmer seasons, that Baywatch movie continues to come at us right on schedule. A new series of character posters copies one very well-known Game of Thrones phrase almost verbatim, but tweaks it juuust a little bit. Dwayne Johnson and his lifeguard crew are here to assure us that “summer is coming,” and Baywatch is coming right along with it.
Rian Johnson Snaps a Photo From the ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ Edit Bay
After months of radio silence, it looks like we’re finally going to get to see a little more of the next episode in the Star Wars saga. Yesterday, we had that sweet title reveal (along with some troubling Sith red in the logo…), and today director Rian Johnson shared a photo from the editing bay, where he and his crew are hard at work putting the finishing touches on their new movie.
‘The LEGO Batman Movie’ TV Spot: Batman Has Met His Match
Will Arnett’s Batman was by far the hilarious standout of The LEGO Movie, and we’re a little less than a month away from seeing his solo movie take off. But it seems another character might be stealing the show from Batman this time: Barbara Gordon, aka Batgirl, is featured in a new TV spot for The LEGO Batman Movie that shows the Dark Knight might have met his match.
‘CHIPS’ Trailer: California, It’s Time to Party
You tilted your head to the side and went, “Huh,” when you first heard about it. You said to yourself, “Oh yeah, I’d forgotten about that,” when you saw casting news about it. Now, you can see it for yourself — or, at least, two minutes and forty-two seconds of it: Dax Shepard’s CHiPs movie remake finally has its very first trailer.
New ‘Beauty and the Beast’ TV Spot Shows How Charming the Beast Can Be (Not Very)
Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast hits theaters a little more than two months form now (!!!), and they’re already rolling out the TV spots. We’ve seen Belle meet the Beast and try to talk to a hairbrush, and now the Beast is getting a little bit of dating advice from his animate inanimate pals.
‘Deadpool’ Is the Most Pirated Movie of 2016
When is a superhero movie like Game of Thrones? When it’s the most pirated movie of the year, of course. On a new list of all the movies downloaded from popular torrenting site BitTorrent, the merc with a mouth tops the chart over Batman v. Superman, Captain America: Civil War, and The Force Awakens.
Pennywise Floats Awkwardly Inside a Sewer Pipe in a New ‘It’ Remake Image
’Tis the season for images of movies that none of us will be able to see until months from now! The latest was a kind of Christmas present from the folks over at the remake of Stephen King’s It, but unfortunately it’s more awkward than scary. The image shows Pennywise — who else? — lurking inside a larger-than-life sewer pipe, seemingly floating somehow above the ground.
Dwanta Claus and the Rest of the ‘Baywatch’ Cast Suit Up for Christmas
It’s the holiday season, which means cozying up with family to It’s a Wonderful Life for the umpteenth year in a row, or giving and receiving presents from loved ones, or trawling the internet looking for “Happy Holidays!” tweets from your favorite Hollywood celebrities. Yesterday, the cast of the new Baywatch movie, all decked out in seasonally appropriate Santa hats and mistletoe accessories, posted a special Christmas message to their fans.
Gareth Edwards Says There Is a 4K Restoration of the Original ‘Star Wars’ Out There Somewhere
In this new age of ultra-hi-def-liquid-frame-3D-VR-cystal-lava-screen-immersion TVs that you and I can have in our own home theaters, the old classics just don’t look as good anymore. Movies that seemed like the height of technology back when televisions were still cube-shaped look jerky and unfocused now that we’re so used to seeing the highest-definition image possible, so 4K restorations are now on the rise. Gareth Edwards, director of Rogue One, says that Lucasfilm is in possession of a 4K version of the original Star Wars, but has no idea when the rest of us will get to see it.
‘Suicide Squad,’ ‘Deadpool,’ ‘Hail, Caesar!’ Included in Oscar Makeup Finalists
One of the more niche Oscar categories is Best Makeup and Hairstyling, which is one of those that gets awarded early on in the ceremony before any of the really big ones like Best Actress or Best Picture are announced at the very end. But sometimes it’s the technical categories that are the really interesting ones, and this year in particular saw a few very creative makeup design moves, especially when it came to superhero movies.
‘Passengers’ Writer and Director Address the Controversial Premise, So It’s All Good Now (It’s Not)
By now, you’ve probably heard about the not-quite-twist at the center of this month’s sci-fi romance Passengers. It’s gotten a lot of attention, and people aren’t happy. If you’ve only seen the trailers, you’ve seen the “Titanic in space” aspects of the film, but there’s actually a lot more to it, and not in a good way. Director Morten Tyldum and writer Jon Spaihts have finally addressed the reason why they decided to keep that one controversial plot point in the film, but it might be too little too late. If you haven’t heard anything about this, or if you’d rather go into the movie knowing as little as possible, it’d be a good idea to turn back now, because there are SPOILERS ahead.
Gareth Edwards Confirms ‘Rogue One’ Completely Scrapped the Script’s Original Ending
If you’ve seen Rogue One by now, you’ve probably noticed a lot of the moments we all saw in the trailers didn’t actually make the final cut of the movie. We even published a whole run-down of all the lines and shots that are nowhere to be found in the finished product. Apparently the movie went through a lot more edits than just reshoots though, because according to director Gareth Edwards, the original script had a vastly different ending from what the movie ended up with. This article focuses on the end of the movie, so if you haven’t seen it yet, SPOILERS abound.)
