Batten Down The Hatches! Maine Meteorologists Warn of Possible Tornadoes on Thursday
You know the old adage, if you don't like the weather in Maine, just wait a minute and it will change. Many would argue that this summer, at least so far, has been a little wetter than we would like to have seen in Maine. However, this last week or so has been pretty spectacular. But, get ready, because it's about to change.
According to a weather blog from Christian Bridges at WGME 13, Maine is on track to get some potentially damaging weather on Thursday afternoon. Bridges goes on to report that the forecast models for Thursday are showing a threat of potential flooding, heavy rains, damaging winds and even a possible tornado.
Though Wednesday looks to be fairly quiet, sunny and warm, the weather on Thursday appears to be anything but. WGME reports that Thursday will 'turn very active' as a storm system will push its way into the state in the afternoon, bringing with it the likelihood of some severe weather bursts.
Though the weather will be moving in all afternoon, Bridges tells us that the worst of it for most Mainers can be expected to take place between 5 and 10pm on Thursday evening.
What about those tornadoes we mentioned? Well, according to Bridges, the threat is real, though still considerably low. Take a look at the tornado threat map he shared in today's weather blog.
WGME's, Christian Bridges, said in part about the possible tornadoes on Thursday;
A tornado or 2 also cannot be ruled out, especially south of Portland and into southern New Hampshire. Stay weather aware Thursday afternoon, a good one to keep plans indoors.
