22-Year-Old Man Dies After Van Crashes Off Bridge in Brunswick, Maine
Police say a 22-year-old man from Sebago died Wednesday evening after the van he was driving went off a bridge in Brunswick.
According to Brunswick police, Brandon MacFarland, 22, of Sebago, was driving a Ford Transit van on the Route 196 on-ramp heading toward Route 1 at around 6:50 p.m. when the crash happened.
Investigators say that as MacFarland traveled over the bridge, the vehicle left its lane and drove up an icy embankment along the side of the roadway. The van then went over a barrier and fell to the ground below, WGME reported.
Emergency crews responded to the scene, but MacFarland was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say road conditions may have played a role in the crash, though the exact circumstances remain under investigation, WGME said.
Authorities have not released additional details at this time as they continue to look into what led up to the crash.
