It has been a labor of love for us over the last seven years. Our team's favorite event of the entire year is our annual Camp Out Hunger food drive at the Sam's Club parking lot here in Augusta.

This year was our seventh annual and with the government shutdown and the SNAP funding crisis ongoing, we knew we were going to be way down, or way up with donations. Thankfully, it was the latter and not the former.

According to Captain Keith Davis from the Capital Region Salvation Army, in 2023 the event raised $7,800 in cash donations and 36,700 lbs in food with a retail value of $147,00.

Fast forward to 2025 and the seventh annual Camp Out Hunger food drive and the Central Maine community rallied hard to make it a record year. Captain Keith said that this year we raised a staggering $15,758.00 in cash donations and a whopping 41,250 lbs of non-perishable food with an estimated retail value of $165,000.

Davis went on to explain that in the seven years this event has been happening, this is the first year in its history that the combination of food and money raised will be enough to sustain the Salvation Army's food pantry until next year's Camp Out Hunger kicks off on Monday, November 2nd, 2026.
