OK, enough is enough with the term "gate" when referring to a scandal. I love the Patriots football controversy, it's a great distraction to keep me from getting too bored waiting for the Super Bowl. It also allows for a few double entendres when talking about balls, but let's refrain a little from saying "gate" after every thing. I'll give "Spy-Gate" a pass and I'll tell you why.

"Spy-Gate" was the term used when the Patriots were filming and/or taking pictures of the competitor's sidelines to learn the team's signs and signals. "Spy-Gate" was thought of as an intrusion of privacy to a degree and that brings me to my point.

The term "gate" comes from Watergate, the name of a hotel and office building where President Nixon and his administration was caught bugging or spying on the Democratic National Committee in Washington DC.

This is not a huge pet peeve of mine but one that is starting to drive me a little nuts.
