WGME 13 is reporting that the Maine State Police is assisting the Kennebec County Sheriff's Office at the scene of a plane crash in Litchfield, Maine. At this time police say that Oak Hill Road in Litchfield is closed at the intersection with Wintergreen Lane as officials are on scene and are assessing the damage.

Rescue crews are rushing to an area where an apparent plane crash was reported on Tuesday afternoon.

The Kennebec Journal is reporting Tuesday afternoon that people at the Meadows Golf Course in Litchfield reported hearing a plane go down and crash in the area.

Fire crews currently have Buker and Oak Hill roads shut down as they feverishly search the area for the downed plane.

The KJ goes on to report that Gardiner, Monmouth and Litchfield rescue crews were working together to search both wooded areas and local ponds for any signs of the plane.

The KJ explains that float planes often take off and land in ponds in that area near the Meadows.
