When it comes to bars in Maine, there is never a shortage of places to check out.

As a matter of fact, Maine has consistently been ranked as one of the best places in the country to grab a delicious craft beer.

For many of us, our local bars are more than just a place to grab an ice-cold beverage and a quick bite to eat. You see, it can be so much more than that, can't it?

For many Mainers, our local watering holes are places where we gather as friends, family and community members to socialize and enjoy each other's company.

And now, sadly, one wicked-popular Maine bar is set to close for good. According to a post on their Facebook page, Chaps Saloon in Buxton, Maine, has announced that they will be closing their doors at the end of the year.

Julie, the owner, penned a heartfelt post on the bar's page explaining that she has decided to move into the mobile bar and catering business full time. And, trying to manage that plus run a popular bar fulltime would just be too much.

Julie explains that the bar does have a buyer ready to go and that the place will sell just after the new year. She also explains that the location will not continue to be a bar, much to the dismay of longtime patrons.

The current owner, Julie, told her beloved patrons in part on a Facebook post,

The sale is scheduled to take place mid January, so we tentatively will be closing The Saloon doors as of the end of the year.

It is bitter sweet because as much as I thought I was ready for the sale, I am a bit sad to announce it will no longer be a bar.

A HUGE thank you goes out to all of the current and past staff. You all had a hand in helping make this place what it was these past 12 years and the memories we will all share for a lifetime. Thank you again, I couldn’t have done this without you all!

We wish Julie the best in all of her future endeavors!
