People that ride motorcycles will tell you that you don't have to have an excuse to get on your bike and ride. However, if you feel like you do, we have a great one for you.
Back for it's second year, the Doug Burnell Memorial ride will be taking place in Central Maine on Saturday, July 13th. Local music-man, Rob Burnell, tragically lost his dad, Doug, to a motorcycle accident several years ago.
Since then, Rob has dedicated much of his life to raising safety awareness and money for the United Bikers of Maine 'Biker Down Fund'. Should the unthinkable happen to a loved one, the biker down fund will cover up to $4,000 of expenses.
The ride, though put together out of heartbreak, is really a fun time of celebrating life and enjoying motorcycles. It all gets underway in Hallowell, makes a stop in Jay for a moment of silence, and ends at Fast Eddie's Drive-In in Winthrop for live music with the Worthy Bones. Plus auctions and raffles, too!
According to the event page,
Whether you knew him or not. If you or someone you know has lost a loved one in a motorcycle accident. If you just want to show your support and help raise Motorcycle Awareness here in Maine. Please join us for the First Annual
Doug Burnell Memorial Ride: this July 13th, 2024.
On July 13th, 2018 we lost one of the best there ever was. A family man, a brother in Christ. Resident of Fayette, graduate of Livermore Falls HS and 30 year employee of Progressive Distributors in Winthrop.
A beloved father, grandfather, brother and friend was taken from us far too soon due to a negligent and preventable accident on the border of NH. In his attempt to save one life, he sadly was forced to lay down his own.
Listen to our interview with Rob below!
We hope to see you there!
