It's hard to believe that it has been 7 years since the Central Maine community lost great friend, father and avid rider, Doug Burnell.

Following his fatal motorcycle crash, Doug's son and Maine musician, Rob Burnell, knew he needed to do something to both honor and keep his father's memory alive. After a couple years of brainstorming, the perfect idea came to fruition.

The result was the Doug Burnell Memorial Ride. Starting in 2023, the DBMR is a chance for like-minded people to get together and enjoy a day of riding, remembering and celebrating those we've lost to motorcycle fatalities throughout Maine.

The ride begins at the Thomas College Ice Vault on Whitten Road in Hallowell. This year's ride, the third annual, is set to kick off at around 10am on Saturday, July 12th. The ride will cruise into Jay to pay tribute and a moment of silence to the late Doug Burnell before turning and burning for Winthrop for an afternoon of food, drink and music at Ted's Trackside.

There will be prized, a 50/50 and lots of fun to be had. All of the day's proceeds will go directly to the United Bikers of Maine Biker Down Fund.
