Maine’s Eliot Cutler Accused of Breaking Probation Rules Again
Former Maine gubernatorial candidate Eliot Cutler, who previously served jail time for possessing child sexual abuse material, is once again facing legal trouble. According to a report from the Ellsworth American, Cutler is accused of violating multiple conditions of his probation by viewing sexually explicit material online and using electronic devices that were not being monitored as required.
Cutler, 79, pleaded guilty in 2023 to four felony counts of possessing child pornography. He served roughly eight months behind bars and received an early release for good behavior. Under the terms of his sentence, he is required to complete six years of probation. He is currently about one-third of the way through that term, the paper reported.
The new accusations stem from a motion filed by Cutler’s probation officer, who alleges that on Sept. 8, Cutler accessed the website of a massage parlor located in the San Francisco area. According to an affidavit cited by the American, Cutler answered detailed questions on the site about his preferences for an escort. This reported activity occurred at the same time Cutler requested permission to travel to California, saying he intended to visit elderly friends.
The probation officer also claims that on Oct. 2, Cutler used electronic devices to connect to the internet without the mandatory monitoring software installed. Those devices were later turned over to the Maine State Computer Crimes Unit, which determined they had been reset, according to the affidavit.
A court hearing to review the alleged violations has been scheduled for Dec. 16, the Ellsworth American reported.
