A deadly crash in Gray is under investigation after a 29-year-old man from Mechanic Falls died from injuries suffered in a head-on collision.

According to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened near the intersection of Shaker Road and Game Farm Road. Deputies say a 70-year-old driver operating a Ford Maverick crossed over the center line and struck a Mazda sedan traveling in the opposite direction.

Emergency crews responded to the scene and both drivers were transported to the hospital for treatment. Authorities say the driver of the Ford Maverick is expected to survive.

The driver of the Mazda sedan was identified as Shane Pottle, 29, of Mechanic Falls. Officials say he later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, WGME reported.

The crash caused a significant emergency response in the area as investigators worked to document the scene and determine exactly what led to the collision.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash with assistance from the Gorham Police Department. At this time, no additional information has been released about possible contributing factors or whether charges are expected.
