House music isn’t something you hear at every event in Augusta, but this September, it’s taking over Mill Park, and it won’t cost anything to check it out.

The Kennebec Valley House Music Festival is happening Sunday, Sept. 20, from 2 to 8 p.m. The free event will bring DJs and hours of house music to the park along the Kennebec River.

As someone who loves house music, this immediately stood out to me. It’s a chance to hear a style of music we don’t get nearly as often at events in central Maine, without having to buy a ticket or make a trip somewhere else.

Something Different and Free

That might be the best part of this festival. You don’t necessarily have to already be into house music to stop by and see what it’s about.

Putting that atmosphere outdoors at Mill Park should make for an interesting combination, especially with the river as the backdrop.

And because admission is free, there’s not much of a barrier to giving it a try. Stay for an hour, stay for the whole afternoon or just stop by to hear something you might not normally hear around Augusta.

For house music fans like me, though, six hours of it right in Augusta is an easy sell.
