Gardiner Domino’s Pizza, Historic Building, Set to Reopen
While that's super-exciting news in itself, there's a lot more than just pizza coming back to one of Gardiner's oldest and most historic buildings.
It was just over a year ago the several area fire departments battled a blaze at 192 Water Street. After the fire, sometime around March, the process began to rebuild not only the pizza shop, but all of the office space that had previously occupied the other floors.
According to the KJ, a structural engineer had gone through the entire building, originally constructed in the 1830's, and determined the building did not need to be demolished. Building owner, Fernando Jantorno Stelser, said that the reconstruction has faced multiple delays this year due to his contractor and CMP. Though despite the several setbacks, they hope to have the building reopened within three months. By the end of January we should even have a specific date for the Domino's reopening.
As far as the rest of the building goes, Gardiner Mayor Patricia Hart, who's office was there prior to the fire, is planning on returning. In addition, Gardiner Main Street has plans to lease the entire 3rd floor and move it's operations there as soon as possible.
the building at the corner of Water and Church streets has housed a number of businesses, offices and shops, including Maine Trust & Banking, Fleet Bank of Maine, Camden National Bank and the Gardiner Hotel.
It's always great to see communities and businesses bounce back after tragedy strikes.
