Commuters Rejoice: The Gardiner-Randolph, Maine, Bridge Has Reopened
After several weeks of one-way traffic only on the Pearl Harbor Remembrance bridge that connects Randolph and Gardiner, Maine, eastbound traffic, which was temporarily halted, is now reopened.
According to an update provided to the city of Gardiner by the Maine Department of Transportation, 2-way traffic has reopened to the commuting public as of Wednesday morning.
This comes as welcome news as commuters have had to drive to Richmond or Augusta to cross the mighty Kennebec River and get back over to Randolph, Chelsea, Dresden or other surrounding towns.
Though bridge and infrastructure upkeep and repairs are an integral part of of keeping our roadways and drivers safe, it does seem to cause a bit of public outcry from people that are inconvenienced by the projects.
To those people, I remind you that there is really never a "good" time to do this kind of work. Whether it's July or the middle of winter, these types of projects are always likely to cause traffic headaches and detours.
So next time you get hung up in construction or you have to find an alternate route, just remember that these projects are not only important but vital for keeping Maine's roadways safe for years to come.
Part of the message that came from the Maine Department of Transportation read,
Maine DOT reports that the Gardiner-Randolph Bridge has been reopened to 2-way traffic. Message boards will be updated and Detour signs will be removed later this morning.
Eastbound traffic may now cross the bridge from Gardiner to Randolph.
