3 New England States Are Among the Most Expensive for Weddings, but Maine Surprisingly Isn’t One of Them
If you’re planning a wedding in New England, you already know it probably isn’t going to be cheap. But a new ranking shows just how expensive getting married in this part of the country can be.
What’s really surprising, though, is which New England state is missing from the list.
New England Takes Three of the Top Five Spots
According to Mental Floss, three New England states landed among the five most expensive states in the country to have a wedding. Rhode Island came in second, with the average wedding costing a whopping $51,000. Vermont followed in fourth place at $47,000, while Massachusetts rounded out the top five at $45,000.
Connecticut wasn’t far behind, either. It ranked sixth nationally with an average wedding price tag of $42,000.

So, Where Is Maine?
That’s the part that caught my attention. Maine didn’t make the top 10 at all.
With Maine’s gorgeous coastline, waterfront venues, historic inns and countless destination weddings, I would have expected it to be right there with the rest of New England or atleast at the top.
Instead, Rhode Island, Vermont, Massachusetts and Connecticut all made the top 10, while Maine was nowhere to be found. And considering how popular Maine is for picture-perfect weddings, that’s pretty shocking.
