Gov. Paul LePage has ordered that all U.S. and Maine State flags in the state should be flown at half staff to honor Somerset County Deputy Sheriff Corporal Eugene Cole who was killed in the line of duty earlier today.

“Our deepest condolences go out to the family of fallen Deputy Sheriff Corporal Eugene Cole,” said LePage. “He served his community with honor, and his sacrifice will not be forgotten. Our thoughts are also with all of Maine’s law enforcement community as they mourn the loss of their colleague, and we pray for their continued safety.”

John Williams, 29, of Madison, who is wanted for the death of Cole, remains at large and should be considered armed and dangerous.
