During a Monday (June 8th) afternoon press conference, Governor Janet Mills unveiled her administration’s new plan to protect the health of Maine’s residents, and visitors, during the upcoming Summer 2020 tourist season.

She is calling it the "Keep Maine Healthy" plan.  The plan provides an alternative to the 14 day quarantine for out-of-staters.

There are three key points to the plan:

1 - Visitors coming to the state must certify they have recently (within 72 hours) received a negative COVID-19 test.  Each adult visitor (not children) will be required to fill out a compliance form stating that they have gotten tested and are negative.  And, potentially, the may have to present the negative test results.

2 - Increasing symptom checks at areas frequented by visitors (like visitor centers, beaches, etc).

3 - Supporting community promotion of COVID-19 prevention best practices.  These could include signage and public service announcements.

This plan will go into effect on July 1st.

Residents of New Hampshire and Vermont are exempt from the tests and quarantine.  Additionally, residents of those states will be able to stay in Maine lodging establishments starting this Friday (June 12th)

She was joined at the press conference by Maine Economic and Community Development Commissioner Heather Johnson, Maine Department of Health and Human Services Commissioner Jeanne Lambrew and Dr. Nirav Shah, director of the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

According to the KJ, Mills’ administration also made the announcement the state would be getting a new mobile testing lab that, by next month, would be able to process an additional 25,000 tests per week.  There will also be an additional 20 testing sites spread across the state.  This will allow those who need to be tested to stay much closer to home.
