After a story that we covered went viral, we were reached out to by the people that actually own the missing bird. A viral video over the weekend showed a giant Emu casually strolling down the road in the town of Vienna.

But, where did this Emu come from? Initial suspicions were that this bird may have escaped from the DEW Haven Animal Sanctuary in Mount Vernon as it's just one town over from Vienna. However, we now know that the bird got out from an area farm.

According to Darcy Lee on Facebook, the Emu's name is Harriet. She got out sometime on Friday during that hectic wind and rain storm that passed through Central Maine. And while there have been several Harriet sighting in the past few days, she has evaded capture.

Darcy goes on to say that Harriet is very friendly and that her Emu boyfriend, Ozzy, really misses her. Harriet really loves Kale and, while friendly, is currently in heat which may cause her to be combative and kick if you attempt to wrangle her.

Darcy says that Harriet the Emu was last seen on Dill Road in Mount Vernon where someone attempted to capture her, however she was able to get away and only leave a pile of feathers behind.

If you, or someone you know, thinks you have seen Harriet in the area, please don't delay and contact Darcy immediately at 207.595.8414. A reward is being offered for her safe return.
