A man was taken into custody on Wednesday night at Portland's high-rise apartment complex, Franklin Towers, according to an article by WGME 13.
Police say that they responded to a call for help from Franklin Towers at around 9pm on Wednesday night. Complainants said that a man was there threatening and assaulting people while holding an apparent machete.
Responding officials say that when they arrived they found a man that was 'moving around the building' while holding the machete and assaulting people. However, it's worth noting that police also said the man did not actually use the machete to assault anyone.
Police did not immediately disclose how the man was assaulting people, just that he was not using the machete that he was carrying. Police made contact with the suspect and were able to take him into custody without further incident.
WGME reports that Amhed Ismail, 37, who is currently unhoused, was taken into custody by police and charged with trafficking in prison contraband, unlawful possession of scheduled w drugs, criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon and violating conditions of release.
At this time, no further information about the alleged assaults is available from local authorities. However, we will keep this story updated as more information becomes available to us.
It's important to note that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
