Authorities Identify Woman Killed in Wednesday Crash in Coastal Maine
A community is in mourning following the unexpected passing of a 23-year-old woman.
According to an article on the WABI website, a Searsport woman has died following a serious crash Wednesday night in Searsmont.
The Waldo County Sheriff’s Office says the crash happened just before 8 p.m. on Belfast Augusta Road West.
According to investigators, 23-year-old Natalie Austin of Searsport was driving east on the road when her vehicle crossed the centerline. Authorities say the car then left the roadway and began to overturn.
Officials report the vehicle rolled multiple times before eventually coming to rest upside down.
Emergency crews responded to the scene, but Austin was pronounced dead there.
Investigators have not yet said what may have caused the vehicle to cross the centerline. At this point, officials say the crash is still under investigation as they work to determine the factors that led to the rollover.
Belfast Augusta Road West remained an active scene for a period of time Wednesday night while first responders and investigators worked in the area.
The Waldo County Sheriff’s Office has not released additional details as the investigation continues. Authorities say more information could become available once the crash reconstruction process is complete and investigators finish reviewing the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Our thoughts go out to the family and friends of the deceased.
