According to an article on the WMTW website, a Maine man is dead following a wild incident that included allegedly threatening people with a firearm and speeding off at 150 MPH.
The article explains that 40-year-old Robert Boggia Jr., of Washington County, was killed in a high-speed crash over the weekend. He has been accused of threatening people with a gun at a Calais bar shortly before the deadly wreck, according to Maine State Police.
Officials say just before 12:50 AM Saturday, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office notified state police about a crash on Charlotte Road in Charlotte. The driver and sole occupant, Boggia, of Whiting, was pronounced dead at the scene.
During the investigation, troopers learned Boggia had reportedly been at a bar in Calais before the crash, where witnesses say he threatened several people with a firearm. Authorities say he left the scene before law enforcement arrived.
Police later spotted Boggia driving a red Chevrolet Corvette on Route 1 in Calais at an estimated speed of 150 miles per hour. Baileyville police attempted to catch up to the vehicle but were unable to do so.
A Washington County sheriff’s deputy on Charlotte Road also saw the Corvette traveling at a high rate of speed but could not catch up until coming upon the crash scene moments later.
Investigators say Boggia was ejected from the vehicle and found a significant distance away. State police say speed appears to have been the primary factor in the crash. The investigation into the events leading up to the wreck remains ongoing, and toxicology results are still pending.
Charlotte Road was closed for several hours as troopers processed the scene and documented the crash.
