List of Maine Places to Visit With Your Dog in the Summer

If you have a dog, you know they're not just a pet, they're basically your shadow.

I've got a 2½-year-old Mini Australian Shepherd named Moondog, and he's convinced we're attached at the hip.

He's full speed from the second he wakes up until he finally crashes at night.

Somehow, he only listens to me, even though my wife is the one who feeds him, takes him outside, and honestly does a lot of the heavy lifting. Make it make sense.

Summer in Maine is basically Moondog's favorite season. The second he sees me grab the leash, he starts doing laps around the house like he just won the lottery.

One of our favorite spots is Streaked Mountain in Buckfield. It's a moderate to difficult 1.2 mile round trip hike.

Between the views, and trails, it's the perfect place to let him burn off some of that endless Aussie energy. Plus, I get to enjoy the scenery when we've reached the top, together.

Another go-to is Willard Beach in South Portland during the dog-friendly hours. Watching a dog discover the ocean never gets old, and Moondog treats every wave like it's a personal challenge.

And when we want something a little quieter, we head to Pineland Farms in New Gloucester.

Miles of trails, fresh air, and plenty of room to explore make it one of the best places to spend an afternoon together.

The best part isn't really where we go, it's seeing how ridiculously excited he gets every single time. And when I say, "Moondog wanna go bye bye?" the amount that his little booty wiggles, jiggles, and dances is something I wish I could bottle up forever!
