The New York Times recently released a list of what they deem, "The best bakeries across the U.S. right now." One of the bakeries on this prestigious list is right here in Maine.

The Place Bakery in Camden made that list  (@theplace_maine) You’ll find it and when you get a look at all they have to offer, you'll probably want to make the trip to the coast.

The best bakeries chosen by the New York Times are not ranked but listed in alphabetical order, but The Place made the list of 22. Here's what the New York Times has to say about The Place.

At the Place, a tiny bakery in Camden, Maine, the ethereally flaky croissant dough (made with local flour and butter) appears in many forms and flavors — swirled into cinnamon buns, folded and sugared into kouign-amanns, layered into loaves. The offerings change weekly, in tune with the seasons and available produce. Which means you’ll have to wait until summer for the savory heirloom tomato Danishes and wild blueberry hand pies. Happily, pastries like the ham and cheese croissants and morning buns dusted with coriander and lemon will tide you over until then.

According to The Place Bakery website, owners Chris and Chelsea moved to Camden to spend their days happy by making pastries using only local flours, dairy, and produce, some of which is grown in their yard. These two are part of a wonderful love story with their passion for their bakery and each other.

The Place Bakery is currently closed as of Christmas Day for some time off, but Chris and Chelsea will re-open the bakery on January 18.
