There are a handful of cozy towns in Maine that out-of-staters just have to visit each and every summer. There's Old Orchard Beach, Bar Harbor, Kennebunkport, and of course, Camden.

Camden boasts a friendly and bustling Main Street during the warmest months. Inns are filled with guests who are exploring nearby towns like Rockland and Rockport, and enjoying all the natural beauty Maine has to offer.

Typically, when the winter rolls in, the tourism rolls out. But according to Readers Digest, you may want to reconsider a visit to Camden, Maine, in the winter, because they believe it's one of the top winter destinations in the entire country.

Readers Digest lists off some pretty good reasons too. Camden is one of the "tourism" towns in Maine that has fully embraced winter. Places within the city offer everything from snowshoeing to fat tire biking, as winter activities.

There's also the infamous Camden Snow Bowl. As Readers Digest points out, it's the only ski area on the entire East Coast where you can ski while also enjoying panoramic views of the ocean.

Every year, Camden holds their annual "Christmas By The Sea" celebration, generally before the snow flies. The event puts a spotlight on local businesses ahead of the holiday, and even features Santa's arrival on a lobster boat.

In the heart of winter during February, the Camden Snow Bowl also hosts the National Toboggan Championships. The competition is the culmination of a free week-long celebration of winter that features ice skating, amusement rides, and many more winter-themed activities.
