Red Sox Legend Johnny Damon Spotted in Kennebunkport, Maine
"Can you believe it?", is what iconic radio broadcaster Joe Castiglione said as the 2004 Boston Red Sox improbably reversed the curse and sent the entire New England region into euphoria over a World Series title.
Since that incredible playoff run, the majority of players from the 2004 Red Sox team have enjoyed royalty status whenever they return to the area, whether it's free food and drinks or just a gathering of superfans hoping to say hello and snap a photo.
One of those kings spent a couple of days last week in Kennebunkport, Maine. That would be Johnny Damon, the outlandish and over-the-top outfielder that famously looked like Jesus when he played for the Red Sox.
Damon is still a character. In some brief appearances on NESN, he had to be reeled in by play-by-play man Dave O'Brien for telling stories and making references that may not be suitable for younger audiences. Despite his brashness, Damon still remains one of the icons of the 2004 championship team, and beloved amongst Red Sox fans.
Damon was seen at several spots in Kennebunkport last week, including Alisson's Restaurant. No reason was given as to why Damon was in Maine, other than a simple vacation.
Damon joins a handful of his other teammates who have spent some time in Maine in the past couple of years. Most notably, David Ortiz. Big Papi spent a fun-filled night in Portland last April as part of a launch of a Big Papi line of cannabis products.
