There are plenty of struggling restaurant and beverage chains throughout America right now. From Denny's to Cracker Barrel, Boston Market to KFC, many of the most notable names in fast casual offerings are falling behind.

One of the chains that doesn't seem to be having that issue is Dunkin'. In New England, Dunkin' has essentially become a birthright. If the town you live in doesn't have one or access to one a short car ride away, there's something wrong.

Which makes the latest closure in Portland, Maine, just a little more mysterious. The longtime Dunkin' location at Woodfords Corner has permanently closed. It did so within a blink of an eye, too.

The crew at Dunkin' left a cryptic message on the exterior sign a few days back proclaiming, "it's too late". People on Reddit surmised that while ominous, it was likely just another attempt at some dark humor for the dark season in Maine.

Instead, it ended up being a more of a prophecy. That sign has been torn down and all remnants that showcased the location was even a Dunkin' have nearly been wiped clean. Woodfords Corner Dunkin' isn't making a comeback.

The location always had its challenges. Woodfords Corner is a bit of a traffic mess, and that left Dunkin' difficult to turn in and out of, especially during the busiest times of the day. It was also a location that didn't have the space for an operational drive-thru, which is how the majority of customers order from Dunkin'.
