I Just Found Out Maine Has A Whoopie Pie Festival And Now I’m Obsessed
Who doesn’t love a whoopie pie?
I had absolutely NO idea the even existed until recently… and now I can’t stop thinking about it. I might see a roadtrip in my future.
There are certain things in life that just instantly make you happy. Fresh-cut grass. A summer cookout. Hearing fireworks somewhere in the distance on the Fourth of July. And apparently… an entire festival dedicated to giant chocolate cake sandwiches stuffed with fluffy cream filling.
The Maine Whoopie Pie Festival happens Saturday, June 13, 2026 from 10am to 4pm at the Piscataquis Valley Fairgrounds in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine. And the second I found out this was a real thing, I became completely obsessed with the idea and needed to know more.
I mean... picture this...
You pull into this little Maine town on a perfect summer day. People are walking around carrying boxes of whoopie pies like treasure chests. Kids are hyped up on sugar. Adults are pretending they’re “just trying one” before immediately buying six more for the ride home. (that'd be me)
Apparently, according the website, more than 30 bakers from all over New England bring hundreds of different kinds of whoopie pies to the festival every year. ([visitmaine.com]
Classic chocolate. Peanut butter. Pumpkin. Maple. Probably flavors I didn’t even know existed but would absolutely convince myself I need “for research purposes.”
And honestly… whoopie pies just feel very New England to me. They feel nostalgic. Kinda like the fluffernutter. It's like something you grab at a roadside bakery on your way to the lake or after a long beach day in Maine.

The festival itself is basically a full-on summer celebration too. Live music. Food vendors. Crafts. Games. Community vibes everywhere. It sounds like one of those events where you show up planning to stay for an hour and somehow lose an entire afternoon wandering around eating desserts.
Also… apparently this thing has become such a big deal that it’s been recognized as one of the best specialty food festivals in America. Which honestly tracks… because New Englanders take dessert VERY seriously.
I genuinely can’t believe I’m just now learning this exists.
