Mainers dealing with seasonal allergies may want to keep the tissues and allergy meds close this week.

According to WGME, allergy levels across Maine are expected to remain moderate to high as warmer temperatures, rising humidity, and changing weather patterns move into the state. The current allergens causing the most trouble include birch, oak, and maple trees.

Monday is expected to bring plenty of sunshine, with temperatures climbing into the 70s and 80s across much of Maine. The UV index will also be very high, reaching a 9, meaning sunscreen and shade breaks will be important for anyone spending time outside.

As the week continues, conditions may become even more uncomfortable for allergy sufferers. Humidity will begin increasing as early as Wednesday, with dew points nearing 60 degrees along the coast. By Thursday, dew points could climb close to 70 degrees, giving the air a much stickier feel.

WGME went on to report that the rising humidity will come with a more unsettled weather pattern. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop Wednesday afternoon and evening, with additional afternoon storms possible Thursday and Friday. A frontal passage moving through midweek will help trigger the wet and stormy conditions.

Temperatures will stay warm through the rest of the week, with 80s common across Maine and some inland communities potentially reaching the low 90s Thursday and Friday.

While some showers may arrive Saturday morning, forecasters say updates will continue throughout the week.

For now, the big takeaway is this: warm air, sticky humidity, high UV levels, and moderate-to-high allergens could make for a rough stretch for many Mainers.
