A crash involving an unloaded log truck and a passenger car occurred on Togus Road in Chelsea on Wednesday afternoon. According to an article published by WGME 13, the crash, which happened at 510 Togus Road, happened at about 4:05 in the afternoon.

When first responders arrived at the scene they say that they pulled up to the log truck almost completely engulfed in flames and the passenger car had multiple people that were trapped inside of it.

Police told the news station that the driver of the log truck was a 71-year-old man from Washington, Maine. Police went on to explain to WGME that the elderly man was safely able to exit the truck before it caught fire and because of that he escaped uninjured.

The driver of the car had a 61-year-old man from Chelsea with her as a passenger at the time of the crash on Wednesday. Both of the passenger vehicle occupants were injured in the head-on collision, police said.

WGME also went on to say that LifeFlight of Maine was called in and at least one of the two people from the sedan were flown via helicopter to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewsiton, Maine.

At this time, police are saying that it appears the woman driving the car veered into the path of the oncoming log truck moments before the collision occurred, though the investigation remains ongoing.

As is standard practice with commercial vehicle operators, the driver of the log truck was taken in for blood testing, according to the WGME article. Both the car and the log truck appear to be total losses following the collision.
