Maine 4-Year-Old Dead Following Gunshot Wound to The Head
A heartbreaking situation is unfolding in Lewiston following the death of a four-year-old child who was shot early Saturday morning.
According to a press release from the Maine State Police, it was just before 5 a.m. on May 17, Lewiston Police received a 911 call reporting that a young child had suffered a gunshot wound to the head at an apartment on Pierce Street. First responders from Lewiston Police, Lewiston Fire, and United Ambulance rushed to the scene at 93 Pierce Street, apartment #2.
The child was taken to Central Maine Medical Center, where they were pronounced dead just after 7 a.m.
Authorities say the child’s body has been transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy. As of now, the exact cause and manner of death have not been officially determined.
The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit South was called in to assist with the investigation. The Department of Health and Human Services has also been notified, which is standard protocol in any case involving the death of a child.
Investigators are still actively working the case, and officials say more information will be released as it becomes available.
