Entrepreneurs from across Maine gathered in Bangor this week to share business ideas and compete for a cash prize during the latest Big Gig Entrepreneurship Pitch Off.

According to WABI, the event was held Tuesday at the Salty Brick Market and brought together aspiring business owners, local professionals, and community members for an evening of networking and competition. Participants pitched early stage business ideas for a chance to win $500 and gain exposure for their concepts.

The competition also gives winners a chance to advance to a larger prize.

“The winners of each semifinal event get $500 and the opportunity to compete for $5,000, so that can make a huge impact on a business that’s just getting off the ground,” said Big Gig organizer Renee Kelly to WABI.

Tuesday’s event drew a strong crowd of spectators who came to hear creative ideas and support local entrepreneurship.

Colin McGuire took home the top prize with his concept called “Art on Tap.” The idea would connect local artists with bars, restaurants, and other venues looking to host events or showcase creative work, the news station reported.

McGuire said the support from the crowd gave him confidence to keep developing the idea.

“The support tonight is huge, and it’s just giving me more enthusiasm for running with the idea,” he said.

The season finale of the Big Gig Entrepreneurship Pitch Off is scheduled for May 19. Organizers say the location for the final competition has not yet been announced.
