Two Maine Teens Arrested, Charged With Assault & Robbery
Two teenagers from Maine are in custody following accusations of robbery and assault stemming from an incident in South Portland.
According to an article published by WGME 13, the alleged incident happened in South Portland last week at Bug Light Park. That's where police say that two teenage boys robbed multiple people at the park.
Police say that the suspects and the victims knew each other prior to the altercation. One of the victims was injured severely enough that they required hospitalization following the alleged attack in the park.
Authorities say they executed three separate search warrants, one of which took place at an area college. Following the execution of those search warrants, police took two 18-year-olds into custody. Jeissey Blash Khamis and Mogga Wani Yanga, both from Portland.
During the arrest, Maine officials say they also located a firearm that they say was used in the attack/robbery at Bug Light Park last week.
Both Khamis and Yanga face charges of robbery, aggravated assault, and theft.
Following their arrests, the two were booked at the Cumberland County Jail. Khamis was later released after posting $1,000 cash bail, while Yanga was released on $300 cash bail.
The investigation into last week's robbery is ongoing and more charges could be forthcoming in the case. We will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available to us.
All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
