Maine State Police and the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a heartbreaking incident after a 3-year-old girl was found dead inside a vehicle Saturday night in Milford.

According to WGME 13, authorities responded to a local business following reports about the child. Upon arrival, they discovered the young girl inside a car allegedly owned by her mother, 40-year-old Kelly Brown of Havertown, Pennsylvania.

Police say a family member had reported concerns about Brown and the child, which prompted the search. The news station said Brown was located and taken into custody early Sunday morning around 5 a.m. She has since been charged with manslaughter and is currently being held at the Penobscot County Jail.

The child’s body has been sent to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner for a full autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. Investigators say the case is still under active investigation, and no further information is being released at this time, WGME explained.

Officials have emphasized that there is no threat to the public as they continue to gather facts.

This tragedy highlights the importance of community awareness and support systems to help protect vulnerable children and families in crisis. If you or someone you know is struggling, don’t hesitate to reach out to local resources or support networks.
