According to WABI TV 5, a Maine contractor has been indicted on accusations of stealing about $400,000 from clients on Maine's midcoast.

The man's name is Malcom Stewart, he's 56-years-old and previously ran the company 'Castle Builders'. According to documents, Stewart is being charged with theft by deception. Aaron Frey, attorney general, says that Malcom Stewart proceeded to take deposits for home construction projects that he in fact knew he could not complete from at least 57 different clients.

The attorney general says that in most all cases no work, or very little, was ever completed. The indictment doesn't stop there however. It also goes on to say that in 2018, Malcom Stewart was loaned $50,000 by two different clients. Loans which apparently were never paid back.

Not surprisingly, given what we now know, Stewart shut everything down back in 2019, packed up, and moved down to South Carolina. Following the indictment by a grand jury in Knox County, a warrant was issued for the arrest of Stewart, however it's not known at this time if he's in custody yet.

We will continue to keep this story updated as more information comes in. If you think you may have been illegally wronged by Stewart, contact the Knox County Sheriff's Office at 207.594.0429.
