Maine Could See A Meteor Storm Thursday Night

According to News Center Maine, we could see a "meteor storm" on Thursday night.

Unlike a "meteor shower", where you see a meteor here or there, in a "meteor storm", stargazers could see several per second.

Several scientists have predicted this week's alpha Monocerotid meteor shower could turn into a storm.  The last time we saw a meteor storm was in 1995 when viewers saw 400 meteors per hour.

Both meteor showers and storms are caused when the Earth moves through the tail of a comet or the debris field of a an asteroid.

The peak of the event will be approximately 11:50 PM on Thursday (November 21st).

Unfortunately, viewing for our area may not be all that great.  According to the National Weather Service, Thursday night will be mostly cloudy with a low of around 27.
