A man from Maine is in custody following an alleged multi-state crime spree which included dragging a victim down the road.

According to an article published by WGME 13, a man from Livermore Falls, Maine allegedly stole a car and allegedly drove to a Massachusetts gas station. Once he was at the gas station in Massachusetts, he proceeded to allegedly steal another car.

As the man was in the process of stealing the car, the male owner of the car clung to the sideview mirror in an attempt to stop the theft. The Maine man proceeded to drag the car owner down the road about 20-25 feet, according to a witness statement.

Michael Leonard, a witness and the victim's friend, told WGME 13,

"I think he tried to not stop him. I think he thought someone was screwing around or something with him, so he grabbed the mirror and then got dragged 20, 25 feet. He was actually pretty composed. He was more concerned about grabbing his cellphone, which was 10 feet from him so he could look at it and track the guy. You could see him going by Woburn on the Google Maps."

The owner of the vehicle eventually let go and the suspect fled the area. About five hours later, and after a vehicle pursuit and brief foot chase, police were finally able to take the suspect, 32-year-old Dustin Zimmerman, into custody in the state of New Jersey, the news station said.

The unidentified dragging victim in Massachusetts was taken to an area hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.

All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
