Maine Has a Favorite Looney Tunes Character, and It’s Not Bugs Bunny
Maine Loves Sylvester
When it comes to Looney Tunes, Maine has a favorite that makes a lot of sense: Sylvester the Cat. According to Coventry Direct, Google Trends search data from the past 12 months was used to determine which Looney Tunes character was the most popular in each state. For Maine, Sylvester came out on top.
Sylvester is best known for constantly trying, and usually failing, to catch Tweety Bird. His determined, chaotic personality feels like a fun fit for Maine. While Maine is known for its rocky coastline, forests, wildlife, and outdoorsy lifestyle, its favorite Looney Tunes character is a house cat who spends most of his time chasing a tiny yellow bird. That contrast makes Maine’s result stand out even more.

How Maine Compares to the Rest of the Country
Maine choosing Sylvester is also interesting because the biggest characters nationally were different. Bugs Bunny dominated the rankings, leading search interest in 10 states. Pepé Le Pew came next, while Granny claimed five states and Tweety took four. Lola Bunny and Elmer Fudd each led in three states.
Maine did not simply follow the national trend by choosing Bugs Bunny. Instead, the state went with Sylvester, giving Maine its own unique Looney Tunes favorite. With Sylvester’s stubborn personality and never-give-up attitude, maybe Maine residents see a little bit of that determined spirit in him.
