Maine Man Arrested After Police Allegedly See a Pound of Drugs on His Dashboard
A Maine man has been taken into custody on several charges following an incident where police could allegedly see more than a pound of drugs sitting on the dashboard of the vehicle the suspect was sitting inside.
According to WGME 13, the arrest, which was made on Thursday, comes on the heels of an ongoing investigation by the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office. The news station is reporting that the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office arrived at the suspect's home on Thurstons Way in Hudson, Maine, on Thursday, where they found the suspect sitting inside his truck.
As deputies approached the vehicle, they allegedly noticed what appeared to be drugs and cash sitting on the dashboard of the vehicle, WGME reported. Inside the truck, police saw Phillip Herbest, 37, and it became clear that he was in need of immediate medical attention, the news station said.
Deputies attempted to remove him from the vehicle, but he allegedly began fighting them, according to WGME. Police were able to subdue Herbest enough to administer Narcan to him, the news station added.
The suspect was taken to the hospital for treatment before being taken into custody and transported to the Kennebec County Jail, according to WGME.
Following a search of the suspect's property, police allegedly discovered two Ryobi zero-turn mowers that had been stolen from a business in Bangor, WGME reported. In addition to the stolen property, police said he was also in possession of meth, cocaine, fentanyl and cash, according to the news station.
According to WGME, Herbest was charged by deputies with aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs, receiving stolen property, unlawful trafficking in scheduled drugs, unlawful possession of scheduled drugs, refusing to submit to arrest, and violating conditions of release.
