Central Maine Man Arrested For Allegedly Asking For Photos, Threatening Maranacook High School Student
A 29-year-old Maine man was arrested yesterday on charges of sexual exploitation of a minor and solicitation of a child for sexual exploitation.
According to an article published by the Kennebec Journal, William C. Smith of Wayne, Maine was arrested at a residence in the town of Vassalboro on Wednesday. Officials say that Smith was asking for photos from a female student at Maranacook High School. Police say he also threatened the girl.
The girl, who is only 14 years old, brought the issue to Maranacook's school resource officer, Deputy Nathan Johnson. Johnson then investigated what was going on with help from the Maine State Police Computer Crimes Unit and other agencies like the US Marshals Service and Maine Violent Offender Task Force, the KJ said.
During the investigation, the suspect continued to send messages to who he thought was the underage girl, but at that time, he was actually messaging the school resource officer.
William C. Smith was then arrested at a residence in Vassalboro and charged with sexual exploitation of a minor and solicitation of a child for commercial sexual exploitation, the KJ said.
He was taken to the Kennebec County Jail where his bail was set at $5,000 cash. There is no word on whether or not Smith made bail or not.
All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
