Maine Man Dies After Crashing Motorcycle Into Ditch in Readfield
As the number of motorcycle fatalities in 2022 appears to be on track to break Maine records, we are now reporting on what will be the third motorcycle fatality in Maine in just the last 7 days alone.
According to WGME 13, a man was killed over the weekend near 234 Old Kents Hill Road in Readfield after his motorcycle left the roadway and crashed into a ditch.
WGME reports that a citizen called 911 and reported that they had found an unconscious man who wasn't breathing laying next to his motorcycle with its headlight still on in the ditch.
When police and medical teams arrived, they located 63-year-old Richard Goucher, of Farmington, laying next to rocks in the ditch. Goucher was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
Officials tell WGME 13 that Goucher was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and it appears he failed to properly negotiate a corner which ultimately led to him going off the road and crashing into the ditch.
Police also say that, at least at this time, it does not appear as though speed or alcohol were factors in this crash.
This is a developing story and we expect more details to be released at a later time. We will continue to keep this story updated as more information becomes available to us either through the Kennebec County Sheriff's Office or through one of our several media partners located around Maine.
