Maine Man Hit & Killed By Logging Truck While Riding His Snowmobile on Valentine’s Day
It was a tragic ending to a Valentine's Day crash in the small northern Maine town of Patten on Tuesday.
According to WGME 13, a 60-year-old man from Millinocket was riding his snowmobile on Tuesday just after noontime on Maine's ITS 85. As the man approached the crossing at Grand Lake Road, he did not come to a stop before entering the throughway.
At that time, an oncoming log truck travelling down Grand Lake Road, was unable to come to a stop in time to avoid hitting the snowmobiler.
The Maine Warden Service responded to the scene though sadly the victim, John Michaud, passed away at the scene.
Officials did say that Michaud had been wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, though still succumbed to his injuries.
As always, state officials urge snowmobilers to use caution and heed road crossings at all times, reminding riders that oncoming vehicles in the roadway have the right-of-way.
