Police say an Auburn man has been arrested after allegedly providing alcohol and marijuana to a 17-year-old before sexually assaulting them.

WGME reported that the teen reported on August 25 that they were assaulted twice in Auburn by someone they knew. According to police, the suspect, 32-year-old Jean Ruhangintwari of Auburn, had given the victim alcohol and marijuana prior to the incidents.

Under Maine law, gross sexual assault includes cases where a victim’s ability to consent is impaired by drugs or alcohol supplied by the accused.

The news station reported that following the investigation, Ruhangintwari was arrested Monday and charged with gross sexual assault, aggravated furnishing of scheduled drugs, furnishing liquor to a minor, allowing a minor to possess or consume liquor, and assault.

He is currently being held at the Androscoggin County Jail.
