Maine Man Shot After Getting Into Altercation With Food Truck Owner at Local Holiday Parade
A man carrying a knife and acting erratically was shot over the weekend following a confrontation with a Maine food truck.
According to an article published by WGME 13, the incident unfolded in the town of Sanford, Maine on Friday afternoon. Witnesses in the area say that prior to the altercation that led to the shooting, an unidentified male was jumping in and out of traffic, carrying a knife and shouting at drivers passing by.
Friday afternoon, the town of Sanford was preparing for the holiday parade, so there was more activity and traffic in the area than normal. The incident, which happened near the intersection of Lebanon and Main streets, drew a large reaction from people in the area.
Local business owner, Mike Ernest, of Sanford Games & Collectibles, said he and other people were inside the store when they say they heard gunshots in the area. According to reports, the suspect with the knife ended up over at Addy's Food Truck and got into an altercation with one of the employees.
Following the altercation, the subject with the knife was shot. It's not clear yet who shot the subject, or if the subject survived the wounds. Sanford Police responded to the scene and say that the person who shot the subject is cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
Addy's Food Truck said in a follow-up Facebook post,
"We are saddened by the traumatic events that unfolded this evening but are thankful that we were able to prevent it from escalating any further. Our children, who were present at the time, are very shaken; our hope is that with time and love, things can return to some sense of normalcy. -Addy's"
Sanford business owners say that despite the shooting, the parade was still able to happen as scheduled.
