Maine Man Sitting in Living Room Killed by Van Crashing Through His House, Driver Dies Also
It was a tragic series of events that unfolded in a northern Maine town over the weekend that ended up resulting in multiple deaths.
Shannon Moss, Spokeswoman for the Maine Department of Public Safety, is reporting that the incident happened at just around 8:30 on Saturday evening in the Aroostook County, Maine town of Madawaska.
Reports indicate that a man was sitting in his living room on Saturday night in the area of Bellevue Street and 19th Avenue in Madawaska when a van came crashing through the side of the house.
Officials say that the man sitting in his living room was killed in the crash. Additionally, the person in the van was also deceased at the scene. Police say the driver of the van, 47-year-old, Shawn Cote, was unable to make a turn at the intersection of Bellevue Street and 19th Ave, causing the van to crash through the house.
Moss indicated in Sunday's press release that both bodies had been transported to the Office of The Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta for autopsies. Moss said that the identities will be determined, as well as causes of death.
This is a developing story and we will continue to keep it updated as more information becomes available to us.
Our thoughts go out to the families and loved ones of the deceased during this extremely difficult time.
