Maine Police Officers Rescue Several Baby Ducklings Stuck in Storm Drain
When it comes to police officers in the state of Maine, we often find ourselves reading and writing stories that involve their heroism. From busting illicit drug dens to taking down wanted criminals, Maine police are always on the front lines protecting us and our families from people looking to disrupt our way of life.
And, while much of what officers in the Pine Tree State have to endure isn't all that pleasant, there are often calls we don't hear about where police are leaving the scene feeling good about what they have done.
In this particular instance, the phrase 'not all heroes wear capes' comes to mind. As a matter of fact, some heroes wear badges and drive shiny police interceptors with cool flashing lights on the top.
Today's story takes us south (or north depending on where you're reading this from) to Cape Elizabeth, Maine. According to a post from the Police Department's Facebook Page, they received an interesting call for help on Sunday morning.
The police department goes on to explain in their post that a concerned citizen in town had reached out to the PD after finding a mother duck quacking helplessly at a roadside storm drain. As it turned out, 8 of her ducklings had fallen through the grates and into the cold water below.
Wasting no time, officers with CEPD showed up to help. Officer Darin Estes, along with help from the amazing crew at Public Works, immediately worked to remove the cover over the drain and 'net' the ducklings out of the drain and back to their mother who was waiting patiently on the roadside.
After the duckies were rescued, police say they 'waddled away as if nothing had happened'.
So again we give a major 'THANK YOU!' to our Maine police officers for always being willing to go above and beyond when duty calls. Thank you for all you do. Oh, and as an added bonus, check out these amazing photos posted below.
