I Skipped Cape Cod Traffic and Flew From Maine to Provincetown Instead

A couple of weeks ago, I had one of the coolest birthday experiences ever. My friend, who I know from CrossFit and school when we were younger, randomly asked me, “Have you ever been to Provincetown?” I said no, and he goes, “Do you want to take my plane there?” Say less!

I met him at his hangar in Waterville, and oh my gosh, the place was incredible. Even better, I got to sit up front with him. For the plane fanatics, it’s a TBM 930 single-engine turboprop, a six-seater that felt like complete luxury. We flew over southern Maine, and I got to pick out places like Sebago Lake and Portland from the air. Then, literally about 35 minutes later, we were flying over the bright blue water and sandy beaches of Cape Cod and landing in Provincetown.

The flight was so smooth and easy that it almost didn’t feel real. Once we arrived, Provincetown was buzzing with people. We grabbed oysters and coffees, wandered through the little shops, and did some quality people-watching.

The best part was that we could enjoy Provincetown for a couple of hours and then fly right home, all in one day and without sitting in Cape Cod traffic! It made me realize what an incredible way flying is to experience New England.

At this point, I just might learn how to fly and buy a plane instead of a house. What an unforgettable birthday adventure. I feel incredibly lucky to have a friend who gave me such an amazing experience!
