Maine could finally pick up some much-needed rain Thursday, but a few of the storms may pack a punch.
Showers are already moving through parts of the state Thursday morning, making for a wet commute in some areas. More showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop through the day, with a statewide marginal risk for severe weather.
According to WGME, storms should begin developing in the mountains around lunchtime before gradually pushing southwest toward the coast later in the afternoon and around dinnertime. Some storms could become strong to severe, with gusty winds and small hail the main threats.
By the time the storms reach the coast, some may begin losing strength, although scattered showers will remain possible.
High temperatures Thursday will generally reach the upper 70s to around 80 degrees. With dew points in the 60s, it will also feel fairly muggy.
The good news is that much more comfortable weather arrives behind the front. Friday will be breezy, with northwest winds around 5 to 15 mph, along with noticeably lower humidity, the news station reported.
Saturday looks like the pick of the weekend, with plenty of sunshine, comfortable temperatures and low humidity.
Clouds return Sunday ahead of the next weather system, which could bring another round of rain Sunday night into Monday morning.
