Humid Wednesday Could Bring Severe Storms to Parts of Maine

Strong to severe thunderstorms could develop across parts of Maine Wednesday afternoon, bringing the possibility of damaging wind gusts and heavy rain.

According to WGME, a marginal risk for isolated severe storms is expected to begin around 1 p.m. and continue through at least 4 p.m.

The greatest chance for stronger storms will be across the western Maine mountains, the foothills and central portions of the state. An isolated shower or thunderstorm could also reach the greater Portland area.

Damaging winds are expected to be the main concern with any storms that become severe.

WGME says that before the storms arrive, Wednesday will be warm and muggy, with temperatures climbing into the 80s. Dew points are expected to remain in the upper 60s to near 70 degrees through much of the morning and afternoon.

Conditions should become noticeably more comfortable after a cold front moves through later in the day. Dew points are expected to fall into the 50s by Wednesday evening before dropping into the 40s Thursday.

The cooler and less humid air is expected to remain in place through the weekend, with sunshine and high temperatures near 80 degrees.

A high surf advisory will also be in effect from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday for Lincoln and Knox counties. Breaking waves of 5 to 7 feet are possible along the Midcoast, along with a moderate to severe risk of dangerous rip currents, the news station said.
