Friday Storm Threat Could Bring Damaging Wind and Hail to Maine
After a warm and mostly sunny Thursday, parts of Maine could be in for a much more active day of weather on Friday.
According to WGME, increasing humidity and a more unsettled weather pattern will bring the chance for showers and thunderstorms across the state, with some storms potentially becoming strong to severe by later in the day.
Thursday is expected to start much like Wednesday ended, with plenty of sunshine, warm temperatures, and dew points on the rise. Clouds will increase during the afternoon and evening, and a few showers could pop up in the mountains and across interior Maine. An isolated thunderstorm cannot be ruled out Thursday, but Friday appears to be the bigger weather day, the news station reported.
The Storm Prediction Center has placed parts of Maine under a marginal risk for strong to severe thunderstorms on Friday. That isolated threat includes southern Maine, coastal areas, and western Maine.
WGME reported Friday may start off damp and foggy, with showers possible overnight into the morning. Temperatures will begin in the upper 50s and low 60s before some sunshine returns by midday. That break in the clouds could help fuel additional showers and thunderstorms later in the day.
Some of the storms that develop Friday afternoon and evening could be on the stronger side. At this point, the main threats appear to be damaging wind gusts and hail.
The good news is that the unsettled weather does not appear to be sticking around for the entire weekend. Saturday could still bring a passing shower, but conditions are expected to improve overall. Sunday may bring another chance for a thunderstorm, but the final weekend of June is expected to feature quieter and more pleasant weather for much of Maine, CBS 13 said.
So, while Friday may be the day to keep an eye on the sky, the weekend itself should not be a total washout.
