Maine Toddler Shot in The Hand on Tuesday Afternoon
A 3-year-old boy was taken to the hospital on Tuesday following a gunshot wound to the hand, according to police.
WGME 13 reported on Tuesday night that the Sanford, Maine Police Department responded to a call for help at about 4:28 Tuesday afternoon at 13 Shaw Road.
Police say they received a call for help stating that a child had been shot in the hand. When police arrived, they did in fact find a young boy (3) with a gunshot to his left hand.
WGME 13 went on to report that when officials arrived at the scene, the young boy was there with his father. The child was then immediately transported to Maine Medical Center in Portland for prompt treatment of his injuries.
Police on the scene say that a pistol was found and recovered by authorities at the Shaw Road residence.
Currently, there is no word on what led to the child getting shot in the hand. It's unclear if the wound was accidentally self-inflicted or not.
However, Sanford Police say that the investigation into the incident is ongoing and more details will be released as they become available during the course of the investigation.
WGME 13 reports that officials say there is no threat to the public. At this time, no reports of any charges or arrests have been made.
This is a developing story that we will keep updated as more information becomes available to us.
